Day 1 - Smile at a stranger.

When I read this deed right away I thought to myself this will be a piece of cake, I usually smile at strangers anyways. Although when I do smile, I do a half smile, just because I don't want to seem like that overly happy, cheery, creepy girl. So this time not only did I want to make sure to do a huge smile (with teeth and all) but I also really wanted to emphasize on the strangers reaction.

According to the Guinnes World Record website, there is no world-record for the number of people smiling at once. Smiling, like laughing, is contagious. Also, studies have proven that smiling leads to positive things such as smiling is the one thing that can automatically make you happy, the simple act of smiling sends a message to your brain that you're happy and when your happy, your body pumps out all kinds of feel-good endorphins. Smiling can also make others happy, even the singer Louis Armstrong came up with a song which states "when you're smiling, the whole world smiles with you".  Another good reason to smile is it makes you more attractive, I don't know about you but I love someone with a big smile on their face, when someone has a smile it draws me to them. And lastly, smiling just feels good in general.

I made sure when I did this deed I did it in a out of my comfort zone environment, some where no one knew me and I was a complete stranger. So today after the gym I had to run a couple of errands including grocery shopping. While walking down the aisles I smiled my biggest, brightest smile to everyone that came my way. Every single reaction was the same, as soon as I smiled they smiled back an even bigger smile and their smile made me smile even more. In a world so fast paced it's nice to stop and smell the roses every once and in a while, and I definitely found that people smiling back at me made me happy and made my day as well. In conclusion, not only do I think this was a good deed for someone else but it was a reward for me as well.

"Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine he sees all day." -Quoted in P.S. I Love You, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

  1. I'm going to do this today... Smile at a complete stranger. Hopefully they don't give me a look that makes me seem like a creeper. :D
